Guide offers resources, data dentists can use to encourage HPV vaccination

Share

April is recognized as Oral Cancer Awareness Month, with a focus on the role of HPV vaccination in preventing oropharyngeal cancer. A new guide from the National HPV Vaccination Roundtable provides dentists with actionable steps to promote HPV vaccinations. Developed in collaboration with the American Dental Association and the American Cancer Society, the guide emphasizes that persistent high-risk HPV infection is responsible for approximately 70% of oropharyngeal cancers. It highlights the need for dentists to actively recommend the vaccination to adolescents, especially those aged 9. By educating dental teams and integrating vaccination discussions into patient interactions, the goal is to curb the rising incidence of HPV-related cancers in younger populations.
